Newspaper Project, 2016 Offset print on newsprint. 11×17 inches. Edition of 1000. Printed Franklin, TN
In late summer 2015, I invited eight artists to help build a writing publication, or what would eventually be known as the Newspaper Project. Sympathetic to the work of Louwrien Wijers – an artist who believes that social sculpture can materialize through language, conversation, or a distributed text – I found her book Writing as Sculpture: 1978-1987 to be an influential model when outlining the workings of this project.
The goal of this project was to raise questions regarding the boundaries of regionalism and curatorial methods; the process of selection, interpretation, and dispersion, while bringing to attention a systems approach.
